Inside Out: Moodboard ideas for our lives and living spaces

I love how a rug can inspire an entire living space. The Portuguese brand Rug’Society elevates this concept to an art form — but any piece, at any price point, can form a room’s focal point.

The Couple rug by Rug’Society, pictured, is central to this interiors set-up, with the Wales sofa, Lallan table by Brabbu, Borgarde armchair and L’Chandelier light by Boca do Lobo.

There’s been a threefold surge in sales of wet room panels in the past four years, according to Irish company Sonas Bathrooms which has unveiled its Mirage shower panels for the ultimate in bathroom luxury.
The shower panels, shown here in brushed gold, have been developed in response to the growing demand for super-sized showers that provide a spacious ambience. It's the openness that creates the illusion of a larger bathroom. The absence of bulky frames and excess materials makes a bathroom look and feel more expansive.

Wouldn't you love to pull up a pew to this dining table? It's from the Aqua series by Fabrice Berrux for Roche Bobois Paris and its solid base mimics a drop of water. It is paired with a wooden top, adding a gentle, organic touch.

There’s an unmistakable summer vibe about the Gilmorton Plain Apple three-seater sofa, €2,099, and buttoned square footstool, €619, both part of the popular Joules collection available exclusively at DFS.

It feels like sea swimming’s been making waves only in relatively recent years but the Dún Laoghaire Baths were originally built way back in 1843 connecting residents with the Irish Sea. The public space has just had a glam facelift and has only gone and won the AR (The Architectural Review) Public Awards 2024.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, dlr Architects and A2 Architects are behind the revamp, which includes the restoration of a pavilion, a new jetty featuring in-built seating, a changing canopy, a refurbished Edwardian gazebo and a new walkway from Newtownsmith.
The baths were selected as the winning project by a panel of judges including Ricky Burdett, professor of urban studies at the London School of Economics; Aziza Chaouni, associate professor of architecture at the University of Toronto and the founding principal of the design practice Aziza Chaouni Projects; and Günther Vogt, founder of Vogt Landscape Architects. Günther Vogt said: "The architecture and outdoor spaces of the Dún Laoghaire Baths are powerfully designed to resist an unrelenting force of nature: the sea. The materials seek a dialogue with the rocks in the surf — cast from gravel, water and cement, they appear like geological formations, both materially and in terms of the dimensions of the individual parts.”

This public space facilitates sea bathing, watersports and other events. dlr Architects will present an Architectural Review public live event on Thursday, August 8, with Q&A.
