Fabulous news from IKEA Ireland and UK as they recently announced the removal of all single-use plastic straws from its product range and restaurants by this October.

Plus they promise that’s just the start of their sustainability ambitions. This kitchen, made from recycled PET bottles and wood, is their KUNGSBACKA kitchen unit. See www.ikea.ie.

Lidl’s back to school range is in stores now, and while parents are elbowing each other out of the way to get their mitts on grey pants for under €2, this back to school desk caught my eye. Organisation is key, students! This is €69.99 in stores now. www.lidl.ie.

Sleek, smooth and silver, these vertical concealed thermostatic valves are from the Vado Kovera range of bathroom accessories, €434.82 and available from Earthridge.ie.

Love this tea set by ceramicist Louise Robinson. Behold the Lava fleck Shino glaze teapot, €95, and the adorable matching mini mugs. €20 each. Louise and other artists are taking part in ‘In Flux’ which runs at the National Design & Craft Gallery, Castle Yard, Kilkenny until August 6. www.ndcg.ie.

I got a peek at H&M’s new collections for autumn/winter. This under-the-stairs set up is just fabulous, I love this simple table — it would work anywhere.

It’s €99, the candlestick holders are €7.99 each, and the rectangular vase (I’ve been searching for one this shape for ages) is €17.99, with the circular vase also €19.99. See www2.hm.com/en_ie/home for more info.

If you’re all about magicking up an extra room outside with this summer, have a look at Neptune’s Bordeaux eight-seater table, it’s €2,500. Take note that the Tuscany armchairs in all-weather wicker are an extra €410. See www.neptune.com for Irish stockists.

Wooden floors have so much going for them. Beside the obvious aesthetic advantages, they are so much easier to keep clean, they’re hard-wearing, and there’s so many choices out there, there’s bound to be a match for your existing interiors.

Pictured here is American Walnut engineered timber floor from Willow & Weave Interiors. The board thickness is 20mm overall, so you’re ticking all the boxes for the look and feel of solid wood, but with the stability advantages of an engineered product. Those in the know tell me that a 6mm top ‘wear layer’ offers the same advantages as a solid wood product in terms of sanding and refinishing, should you want to change down the road. See www.willowandweave.ie for more.

Isn’t this piece, ‘Atlantic Way’ by textile artist and designer Geraldine Leonard, just breathtaking? Based in Wicklow, Geraldine says she gets her inspiration from the spectacular scenes in ‘the garden of Ireland’ while taking her dog Bailey for walks.

“The striking combination of sensual, velvety textiles and a vividly rich colour palette allows me to transform scenes from our natural surroundings into incredibly unique pieces of abstract art, each piece is handmade using beautiful luxurious cashmere, mohair and silk.” A small framed piece starts at €119.

Check out www.geraldineleonard.com for more info. The Boathouse Gallery in Kinsale also carries her original and silk prints.
