* The Lough Flower and Garden Club will visit Woodcrest Garden, Newcestown, on Tuesday, June 24. Entrance €7. Members only.

* The Cork Branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust is holding a celebration in Beaumont Quarry for volunteers and those interested in finding out more about the site and wildlife in Cork City. There will be an opportunity to learn about plants, insects and Beaumont Quarry, a unique site for Cork City.The event is being run alongside streetfeast.ie so please bring your own food, picnic blanket, etc. Aplant/ foraging walk will start at 11am followed at 1pm by music and face-painting. * This year’s Galway Garden Festival will run on Saturday and Sunday, July 5 and 6, from and speakers will include Evelyn Cusack, deputy head of forecasting, Met Eireann; Fionnuala Fallon, author, garden correspondent and plantswoman and Michael Kelly, founder of Grow It Yourself (GIY) Ireland. Klaus Laitenberger, author, garden designer and vegetable expert, is also lined up to speak along with Dermot O’Flynn, GP, acupuncturist, herbalist & nutritionist. Oliver Schurmann, Bloom and Hampton Palace gold medalist and Duncan Stewart, broadcaster, architect and environmentalist are also listed. Festival highlights include an evening of poetry with Whitbread Award-winning poet, Bernard O’Donoghue and a guest appearance by singer Julie Feeney. Rare and native plants, seeds, trees, garden furniture, tools, pots, sculptures and craft work can be viewed and bought at the many stands. Browse the bookshop and meet great gardeners. The festival is open from 11am to 6pm each day with free shuttle.
