¦ The AGM of the Lough Flower and Garden Club will be held on Tuesday next at 8pm in the SMA centre Wilton. All members are kindly requested to attend.

¦ Beatrice Hartog AOIFA will demonstrate on Tuesday, Feb 4, at 7.30pm at the Ursuline secondary school. Visitors welcome.

¦ Amongst the first flowers to raise their pretty heads in the New Year, the arrival of snowdrops is celebrated with a dedicated month-long series of events and festivals in Co Carlow. The schedule commences with a Snowdrop Gala being held at Ballykealey Manor Hotel in Ballon on Feb 1. Lectures from Richard Hobbs Tales about Snowdrops and John Massey Winter into Spring feature on the programme together with a guided tour of Altamont Gardens with head gardener Paul Cutler and a bulb sale offering snowdrops from Avon Bulbs and Richard Hobbs, and hellebores from Ashwood Nurseries and Harvington. The €70 fee includes lectures, lunch, refreshments, bulb sale and guided tour.
