Tommy Barker finds a Monkstown home with gardens every bit as good as the interiors.
Strawberry Hill, Monkstown, Cork €650,000
Size: 218 sq m (2,335 sq ft)
Best Feature: family home with flair
The name, Vesca Lodge, hints ata bit of grandeur, and most possibly recalls the old family name of Monkstown, Cork Harbour fame, the Vescis, or De Vescis.
Even if so, this 2,300 sq ft home high on Strawberry Hill near Monkstown, Douglas and Rochestown in south Cork, is best described as “a lovely family home,” say selling agent Ann O’Mahony of Sherry FitzGerald, who launches it for sale with a €650,000 AMV.
As attractive as the house are the gardens, of c half an acre, very well kept, landscaped, and set up for use at various parts of the day and all seasons, plus it has a large drive with lots of parking for older families, or for visitors.
Vesca Lodge was built in 1998, to a very high standard, says Sherry Fitz, and its current owners have been here for about a decade, keeping up the standard all the way.
It has two of its five bedrooms upstairs, with den, and three more at ground level where the vast bulk of the livings space is, and the agents say “it oozes charm and opulence, with clean traditional lines and decadently sized portioned rooms.”
It has three reception rooms, in all, and two of the five beds are en suite, and a feature is the large windows across the front facade.
Rooms include a front living room with picture windows, a family room with vaulted ceilings, dining room opening to a patio and a smart kitchen with good built ins and integrated appliances.
It’s a 15 minute commute to Cork sururbs, in a popular ‘out of town’ address, and the same agents have another new listing due soon in the same hinterland.
VERDICT: A walk -in job
