THE family home Deasún is in a countryside setting, west of Cork’s suburban Ballincollig, and is now on the market for €425,000 : it’s just shy of 2,000 sq ft, on a well-tended site of 0.8 of an acre.

The modern, dormer build is set off by stone-detailing, on its front facade, its entrance gates, and even inside in a chimney breast, by the hearth of the home, in a floor-to-ceiling stone feature that has a gas-fire insert in the interconnected kitchen/dining/living room.

It’s a four-bed home, but under a broad sloping roof, so that, upstairs, there are only two bedrooms; between them they share a ‘Jack and Jill’ en-suite shower/bathroom.

And one of those two first-floor bedrooms is essentially in two sections, with a part-dividing wall, so could be good for children who need to share a room but still have separate sections, or it could be part-bedroom and part play area, suggests estate agent, Norma Healy, of Sherry FitzGerald.

So, most of Deasún’s accommodation is at ground-level, with two further en-suite bedrooms downstairs, one set up as a wet room and very suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

There’s also a guest WC, and a utility room.

The current downside, if it is one, is that the day-use rooms are all wrapped up into one main space, which measures 25’ deep and 16’ wide.

So, if new owners want a second family room/den, they’d have the option of repurposing a bedroom, or adding on.

Right now, overall condition is excellent, inside and out, and, location-wise, it’s about ten minutes from Ballincollig and Ovens, near major employers, such as EMC and VMWare, a few miles off the N22, and it’s near Begley’s Forge.

VERDICT: Hot to trot
