They built them large in the 1980s — at least at up at Grange Heights. For sale after 30 years of family ownership, the decent-sized bungalow, No 4, is in mixed scheme Arbour Court on the edge of Douglas village in Cork. Selling agent Ann O’Mahony, of Sherry FitzGerald, prices the 1,750 sq ft house at €365,000, and it is in walk-in condition, she says.

There’s a large ground floor in this deep home, which has a part-brick facade, and there’s cubic feet to count as well, as several of the rooms have high, sloping ceilings — especially the lounge and the dining rooms, which are connected by a door. Features for the time, that still work, are the couple of steps down into the sunken lounge from the hall and dining room, the stone fireplace with raised seating/display space to the side of the hearth, and feature wood-sheeted ceilings/wall gables that could be freshened up by a lick of paint, if you don’t like all those exposed timbers.

There’s a third reception room to the front of the house, a kitchen/breakfast room with tiled floor and modern Shaker units in a light timber, utility, guest WC, and main family bathroom.

Four bedrooms here in all, three of them doubles, plus an en-suite in the master bedroom make for a good balance of living and sleeping quarters.

VERDICT: Good space, handy cul-de-sac setting, and south-facing back garden all add to the appeal of No 4, Arbour Court.
