Glenmont’s a breath of fresh air

APARTMENT living doesn’t have to be all insides and cooped-up interior living, clung to a chicken-wing balcony or a rail across a French door for a breath of fresh air.

The 36 duplex apartments at Cork’s Glenmont, up behind the Moran Silversprings Hotel, are a bit of a breath of fresh air.

Take No 14. It is a duplex unit, with entry level into a hall with two bedrooms and bathroom, with a stairs down to the open plan 27’ by 19’ kitchen/dining/living, giving 930 sq ft of living space. But, that’s only half, or, more accurately, two-thirds of the picture. Also in the mix is a roof terrace set out on top of the lower-level block of units in front, and this gives a highly usable 430 sq ft of outdoor space to add to your living quarters.

A number of owners here have decked out these terraces with patio/garden furniture, planting, bamboos and BBQs, and it all adds that vital, extra dimension.

Glenmont, with 36 duplexes in three varied but associated and linked blocks, was built by O’Brien and O’Flynn and marked a departure from their previous more traditional designs. It is a trend they’ve continued with Garran Dara in Wilton and now plans for a site by the foot of the Airport Road with 174 apartments sought in five blocks.

Back to Glenmont, no 14 is on the market with Sherry FitzGerald in Cork city, who seek €355,000 and who have offers in at the €340,000 level.

It has gas central heating, is wired for an alarm, and the finishes include Spanish porcelain floor in the living space, carpeted bedrooms, with mirrored built-ins and with one bedroom en suite, a maple fitted kitchen with appliances included. Buyers can negotiate separately on the furniture.
