Tradition and modernity combine at the Old Glenbeigh Presbytery
The fully renovated 1880s residence, which went out of church ownership in the 1990s, has been fully renovated and upgraded by its current owners, who have put it on the market with a €500,000 price guide through Sherry FitzGerald Coghlan.
While Glenbeigh is a traditionally popular spot for holiday makers, the buyer of the Old Presbytery is likely to be buying for full-time family use, suggests estate agent Michael Coghlan. He reckons the house on 1.5 acres might just be too big for someone to take on as a second home.
The house and site overlooks Rossbeigh beach and Dooks, and the grounds include a length of upgraded old stables, possibly about 1,500 sq ft of workshop space, with new concrete floors and a new galvanised roof.
With its sea views a selling point and an elevated and mature site, even from the outside it has the sort of feel you just don’t get with a new property, and inside this feeling is further reinforced.
High ceilings give rooms a spacious feel, it has good fireplaces, there is some original terracotta tiled floors, the kitchen has a Rayburn and the hard wood stairs is original.
Accommodation includes three reception rooms, all with pine floors, and two have fireplaces while the third has a cast iron stove. There’s a ground floor utility, store and ensuite bedroom, and the first floor has four bedrooms, one en suite and main bathroom.
