Peninsula property has a stream running through it

ONE of the most remote and sparsely populated areas of West Cork, and arguably one of its best kept secrets, is the Sheep’s Head Peninsula.

The northern side of this rocky finger fronts onto Bantry Bay, while the greener and more populated side overlooks Dunmanus Bay and the more popular resorts of Crookhaven, Durrus and Schull.

And, despite it’s relative obscurity, house prices here are on a par with the rest of the region. Maria Harrington of Key Properties is currently selling a converted farmhouse at Ballyroon for offers in the region of €595,000.

Dating back to the 1700’s, this renovated and extended farmhouse has an enviable position almost on the shoreline with a backdrop of over 20,000 trees. Not only that, but a small stream, with a fall, runs through the two-acre site.

In front of the house is a level, lawned area that’s described by Ms Harrington as a ‘cricket green’ and is ideal, she says, for outdoor entertainment from barbecues to putting.

The accommodation includes a large ‘winter garden’ room in the centre of the main farmhouse which also comes with a fitted kitchen, utility, three bedrooms, (two of which are ensuite).

The interior has over 2,400 square feet of space and has a separate guest cottage on the grounds which is 50 metres away from the house and comes with a bedroom and ensuite.

It also has a oil heating, as does the main house and has its own fireplace.
