Letter to the Editor: Ramifications of America abandoning the Kurds
What Turkey is doing in Syria has serious implications for the rest of the world. International laws are being violated, civilians are being displaced, local demography is being changed and lives are being risked.
There are international bodies like UN to take care of the issues of migrant settlements and rehabilitations. You just cannot roll out your forces and bomb another nation in the name of refugee settlement.
The US is repeating its mistake of Afghanistan in Syria of abandoning the very same forces who helped them to fight the terrorists. Abandoning Kurds this time can have serious ramifications in the entire region. ISIS is not eliminated yet and most of their fighters are imprisoned by the Kurds in the same region.
With the Turkish invasion, the imprisoned ISIS fighters are bound to escape and re-group.
Major countries around the world have condemned it but it is time for EU to take a tough stand against Turkey for not only violating international laws and risking the mass scale refugee problem for Europe but also for threatening Europe in an un-parliamentary manner.
The Kurds have been persistently betrayed for hundred of years despite being supportive of the west since the first world war.
They were promised a separate homeland since then but to-date this large ethnic community of approximately 35 million people are being displaced between Iraq, Iran, Syria and Turkey and have been subjected to all sorts of atrocities, discrimination and International meddling.
Trump shouldn’t fulfil his election promises at the cost of others, let it be Afghanistan or Syria.
