Reader's Blog: Lyra McKee killing brings back the dark days

The killing of Lyra McKee in Derry last week was reminiscent of the 1970s and 1980s, when riots were commonplace.

We all have a part to play in ensuring those days do not return, not ever again.

We must stand up to the thugs, who are brainwashed and do not know anything about the cause they think they are fighting for. They are not Republicans and are hellbent on returning Ireland to the violent days of the past. The people of Derry deserve a lot better and they have shown their revulsion at the murder.

The people of Derry now need to unite to ensure there’s no escalation of any violence and stand with the majority of people on this island who respect the Good Friday Agreement, which was signed by 28 countries, including our own.
