The false economy

GRANT aid should yield a better return from foreign companies in Ireland. The over-reliance on foreign investment, spurred by massive government incentives, should be reviewed to make sure the deal is worthwhile.

While foreign investment gives an economic boost, when things get tough, many of these companies bail out for cheaper destinations.

Our indigenous sector isn’t entirely blameless either. We should be wary of spending a euro to make a cent.
