Health under-managed

YOUR editorial (July 22) was right to call on the Health Minister to publish the Hanley report into medical manpower.

However, your reference to health boards ‘top heavy with management’ suggests that your leader writer has not read the two reports already published. These scotched the myth that there are too many managers and administrators in the health services. One of them, the Brennan Report, went as far as to say that the Irish health service is under-managed. The fact is that less than 8% of health service staff are non-frontline administrative staff or managers.
