Speaking out

JUSTIN KEATING, Minister for Industry and Commerce in Liam Cosgrave’s coalition, accepts the findings of the Barron report (Irish Examiner, Dec 30).

While it has been widely known for years that the government of the day showed little interest in the Dublin and Monaghan bombings, I think that Mr Keating is to be congratulated for his integrity in describing the report as “splendid”.

He was, of course, disagreeing strongly with a number of his former government colleagues, including Garret FitzGerald, Paddy Cooney and Conor Cruise O’Brien.

The rest of that infamous government have had nothing to say about Barron, which is also not surprising.

Liam Burke,

Co Kilkenny.
