THE very obvious increase in truck numbers on our roads — as stated by Joseph Neylon (Irish Examiner letters, September 3) — is indeed a cause of concern to all other road users.

How to end the threat from speeding trucks

The speed at which they travel, as well as their increasing tendency to become a convoy, are factors which inevitably lead to serious road accidents.

In an effort to alleviate road congestion and to reduce the number of accidents, it is surely time to make greater use of our railways as freight carriers.
