Prices at point of departure

IT WAS my understanding that ‘duty free’ had been abolished throughout the EU.

Yet, when travelling by air from Heraklion in Crete to Cork, or Charles de Gaulle to Cork, I find airport shops selling booze and fags at a fraction of the Irish prices. However, while waiting at Cork airport for a flight to Greece or France, the airport shop prices are the same as in any city shop!

To parody a famous quotation: “Never in the history of fiscal policy have so many Irish taxpayers been ripped off by so few politicians - many of them up to their own necks in sleaze.”
