Give us a leader for longer: why Labour Youth backs Gilmore

LABOUR Youth has decided that it is backing Deputy Eamon Gilmore in his bid for the leadership of the party.

This leadership election is critical to Labour’s future. The party needs new blood so that it can make gains in the forthcoming local elections, as well as the next general election.

Compared with all of the other political parties, Labour has the oldest age-profile in the Dail. Unless some new energy is brought into the party, Labour will face huge problems retaining its seats at the next general election. It is imperative that new young members are recruited.
