Schools campaigners dismayed by editorial

TUISMITHEOIRÍ/Teagascóirí le Cheilé (TLC) were dismayed to read your editorial (Irish Examiner, April 2) accusing us of using pupils for publicity on April 1.

Schools campaigners dismayed by editorial

There is no doubt that the unification of all schools parents and teachers alike is a powerful tool when it comes to the rights of our children's education.

A few parents and teachers with very little funding, very little time, but with a copious amount of energy have got together and gathered facts, school by school, county by county, in order to achieve what TLC is all about: securing immediate and adequate funding for our primary schools.

Seven-hundred beleaguered schools felt the need to show unity with each other. TLC felt the nicest way to do that would be to bring the children on a very enjoyable nature walk.

We were amazed that the Irish Examiner should express such an ill-informed view of our intentions.

We would have appreciated an open discussion with your leader writer before he or she knocked such a wonderful idea.
