The way forward

SEAN MARLOW drew attention to the hypocrisy of various political parties in relation to the ‘on the run’ issue (Irish Examiner letters, November 28).

The way forward

I hope, but I’m not entirely sure, that he is on the side that says ‘we must move on and let bygones be bygones, however bitter the pill.’

Optimistic thinking is the only constructive way ahead for this island. We all know that every so-called community and every so-called army has its villains. Demonising them has taken us nowhere - except further into the mire of bitterness.

Despite the understandable grief and pain of those who have suffered from all this evil, the path must be steered maturely towards consensus, not factional recrimination. No cause, including lasting peace, can ever succeed by marching backwards trying to pin blame on one side or another.
