Education road show a waste of money

HAVING attended three YES (Your Education System) meetings so far, it is time to ask the Minister for Education and Science to waste no more of taxpayers' money and stop this farce.

Education road show a waste of money

The only issue being raised at these meetings is that of a lack of resources: funding is needed to train teachers in special needs; it is essential to reduce the pupil-teacher ratio; it is imperative that dilapidated school buildings be renovated; laboratory assistants are essential.

From listening to contributions at these meetings, it is clear the DES had all this information from prior representations by parents, teachers, principals and unions. This was confirmed when Mr Dempsey admitted after the Galway meeting he had learned nothing new.

I suggest that the money allocated for the next 14 meetings be redistributed in an honest attempt to tackle some of the genuine issues presented at the meetings.

Minister, this is not your education system: it is our education system.

In the event of these meetings not being cancelled, I will continue to attend if only to repeat the message it's the funding, stupid!
