City rail station needs to clean up its act
A travel agent friend tried on my behalf and had a similar lack of response. Where were the staff?
The station is filthy. I counted six benches in the entire place so people can’t even sit down.
The restaurant and bar are gone, the only ATM machine is now gone.
There is a little windswept coffee dock, doing its best.
For God’s sake, the overall feel of the place is that of woe and apathy.
Will someone somewhere hire professional cleaners, plant a few flowers and at least pretend there is a bit of confidence about the place?
There is no waiting room for gents. I believe the waiting room for women is also a thing of the past. The station was freezing last winter.
I genuinely hate to knock any institution, but tourism is a major part of our economy. Let’s pretend at least that it’s the second most important railhead in the State.
2005 is little over six months away.
Cork Airport is doing its bit; the ferry port at Ringaskiddy is doing its bit. Surely the lovely old red-brick station, with its many architectural features, can be spruced up and made more customer-friendly.
I know there are plans for a new station, but for now, get your act together, lads! Cork city deserves better from you. Custom is up 30% The look of the station should reflect that.
