Muslims shun alcohol

I REFER to your article entitled 'Law Reform May End Booze Ban' (Irish Examiner April 9).

Muslims shun alcohol

Barrister Michael McGrath should check the beliefs of Muslims before making a statement about them refraining from alcohol during Ramadan. Practising Muslims do not drink alcohol at all.

What Muslims do observe at Ramadan is fasting for the whole month, refraining from food or drink from dawn until dusk. My son-in-law is a Muslim from Indonesia where women are not subservient. Not all Muslims are Arabs and not all Arabs share the beliefs about women that we in the west find so offensive.
