Publicans urged to keep up the fight

YOUR report 'Vintners back smoking ban legal fight' (Irish Examiner, July 14) stated that opponents of the ban suffered a blow because an independent survey of New York found that its ban had "led to an increase in pub and restaurant business there".

Publicans urged to keep up the fight

An 'independent' survey? Absolutely not. It's either the one conducted by city authorities or some other conducted by anti-smoking groups.

If the ban was as good for (or at least not hurtful to) business as the survey claimed, then why are the bars in NY and the vendors that service them still screaming, over a year later, that it's killing their business?
