Criminal conscription an insult to the army

HOW dare John Fitzgerald suggest that knife-wielding thugs and drug addicts should be conscripted into the armed forces (Irish Examiner letters, October 31).

Is he aware of the stringent assessment that prospective recruits go through before acceptance into our defence forces.

It is grave insult to the highly trained men and women who wear the uniform of their country to be subjected to this type of drivel. The only place for the people to whom he refers is prison.
