THE one good thing after the unrest in Dublin on Saturday was to hear the tributes to gardaí from both ordinary participants and leaders in the march.

The thugs have united decent people, North and South, firmly behind democracy and its defenders. Defend our democracy; defend its defenders - this is the call that now reflects the demands of ordinary decent people throughout the island, whatever their county, creed, party, culture or flag.
