Asylum seekers costly burden

IT was with incredulity that I read a recent letter decrying the cost of rounding up illegal immigrants and that this was such a waste of taxpayers money.

Does not the author of this piece realise the cost of the asylum seeker issue to this country?

there is something wrong with our criteria, I believe that we attract bogus asylum seekers because of our ridiculous citizenship laws and relatively generous welfare system.

The cost of this issue is reckoned to be somewhere in the region of 400 to 500 million per annum and growing.

If the application of the law costs money, then it is money well spent.

The alternative is that we are bled dry by people who have no ties with this country; who have no idea of our culture or values; and who have no loyalty to the state.

If preserving our country from gross exploitation for that is what is happening costs money, then it gets my vote.
