Guns are OK in Ireland but not in America

MICHAEL ‘Stupid White Gringos’ Moore or some such, has a great sense of humour.

Old lardass, never one to call a spade a spade (when the audience could turn nasty) told the IRA at the recent féile in West Belfast that it would be okay by him if they held on to their weapons. Rings a little hollow, though, when you remember that he excoriated the gun culture in the US with his film, Bowling for Columbine.

Well, Mickey, me lad, the IRA is big business. And holy terrors besides. Notched up 1,700 or 1,800 body bags in its time (taking time out only on Christmas day) entrenched the Border, undermined the State and now wants to run a political wing while special-pleading its difficulties.

I’m sure there’s a book in it, Michael. Only don’t come looking for any Stupid White Men with money to burn in this neck of the woods.

Suck up to the IRA all you like. They’ll never thank you for it. Nor shall we.
