FF supporter amazed by attack on Sinn Féin

AS a Fianna Fáil supporter, I was amazed by the recent attack on Sinn Féin by Arts, Sport and Tourism Minister John O’Donoghue.

FF supporter amazed by attack on Sinn Féin

It seems to me that Mr O’Donoghue badly needs a crash course on Irish history. Sinn Féin at this time is almost a replica of Fianna Fáil in the late 1920s and early ‘30s.

In 1928, Seán Lemass described Fianna Fáil as a slightly constitutional party.

Between 1928 and 1934, FF kept in close contact with the IRA whose support the party was glad to accept in the 1932 and ‘33 elections.

To show his appreciation, Frank Aiken immediately released all republican prisoners. During those years, the very same kind of insults now directed at SF were being thrown at FF.

In recent times, there has been a notable silence on the part of Ian Paisley and Reg Empey. Their work is now being done effectively by people like Micheal McDowell and John O’Donoghue.
