Pro-life campaign should change tactics

YOUR columnist Rónán Mullen (Irish Examiner, Sept 3), rightly states that the time has come for “new structures to address the increased social and cultural acceptability of abortion in this country.” He then goes on to list a number of areas that pro-lifers should attend to because he says the Government won’t.

Pro-life campaign should change tactics

Of course, the Government won't. This Government supports the abortion culture and has done so for years, as pro-life people now know. Battle-weary pro-lifers do not have the structures or the money in sufficient abundance to do what Rónán wants. And even if they did, it would hardly make a difference.

But there is a way to stop the killing. Rónán and the pro-life movement could do worse than look to the US.

There Mgr Reilly and his Helpers of God's Precious Infants known simply as the Helpers have closed down many abortion mills. They also have put the structures in place that Rónán advises, but they have rooted their action in prayer and fasting, and they are winning the war.

The pro-life leadership in Ireland should now humble themselves and join the little bands of helpers who pray the rosary outside family planning centres in many parts of this country.

When sufficient numbers of them do this, then there will a change. The Government will follow the crowd and will be forced to end to the killing.
