PIGHEADED Martin Johnson may well have been, as your editorial succinctly points out (Irish Examiner, April 1).

But isn’t it the visitor to our shores, or the guest in our homes, who should be given the red-carpet treatment? The real test of character was on the pitch, so we shouldn’t have allowed gamesmanship to upset our equanimity or give them a psychological boost.

Good game, England. Pity about the poor pig that had its skin wasted on making the balls for the game.
