Build the air bridges and shame Aer Lingus

THE reported reluctance of Aer Lingus to use air bridges at Cork airport raises some serious questions about the attitude of the national airline towards its Cork passengers.

Build the air bridges and shame Aer Lingus

We are told they are reluctant to use the facilities in order to facilitate quick turn-around times for their aircraft. However, they have no such reservations about using air bridges at Shannon, Dublin and many of the overseas airports they fly into.

I have no doubt if the air bridges are installed, Aer Lingus will be shamed into using them.

For many years Cork airport’s development has been hindered by lack of investment and sub-standard facilities. This has led to long queues at check-in desks, a chronic shortage of boarding gates and passengers being forced to walk long distances to aircraft in all kinds of weather. This latter practice is unique to Cork as even Third World airports provide buses.

This “t’will do” culture must end, and so must the penny-pinching of the Dublin Airport Authority.
