THE EU directive on the internal market in services could, if passed unchallenged, be one of the most controversial and destructive decisions ever, and a serious threat to the employment of millions of citizens of the EU founding states.

If farming interests within Europe were faced with unfettered access to the EU common market by food producers worldwide, there would be rioting on the streets of Dublin, London, Paris and Berlin.

European workers now face a similar spectre with cheap labour flooding in from not only eastern Europe, but beyond the EU borders, and being paid wages based on their country of origin.
