Promotion of Irish is a dutyof the State

IN his column (Irish Examiner, August 19), Denis Murphy appeared to be about to make some suggestion as regards State investment in the promotion of Irish, but for some reason stopped short of actually making it.

Promotion of Irish is a dutyof the State

The gist of his article - and I am just guessing - is that the State should disinvest in the promotion of Irish.

His main point seems to be that, because the State has failed in 80 years to make Ireland a bilingual society, it should now disinvest in all things to do with Irish. But the attempt to make Ireland a bilingual society is not the only national aim in regard to Irish.
