Season defined

AS a devoted fan of the informative articles by your gardening correspondent, Charlie Wilkins, I was disappointed to read his inaccurate definition of spring (Irish Examiner Property, January 30).

On two occasions he referred to spring as officially commencing in a few days.

In the northern hemisphere spring occurs between the vernal equinox and the summer solstice, ie, from March 12 to June 22.
