Ireland can help end slaughter of millions

IN her article (The heart of darkness, Irish Examiner, June 9), Ann Cahill gives an insight into the complexity of the problems surrounding the bloodletting in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Some put the death toll of this war as high as five million, though we will probably never know for sure how many have died.

The fact that the West chose to look the other way while massacres were occurring must be one of the greatest betrayals in history.
