Exceptional islanders

THERE is a dispute currently involving Fingal County Council over the ownership of St Patrick’s Island off Skerries in Co Dublin.

It reminds me of the famous line from John Donne, greatest of the metaphysical poets: “No man is an island.”

But some people don’t seem to fit: Charlie Haughey (Inishvickillane) and Lord Revelstoke (Lambay Island), to name only two.
