THE Taoiseach and his cabinet are in a spin about what to do about reducing inflation and improving competitiveness in the Irish retail sector.

Eurozone imports will reduce inflation

Perhaps Bertie Ahern and Mary Harney would engage Irish-based retailers and ask them to explain why some 70% of the food items on their shelves is imported from the UK and paid for in an overvalued sterling?

Surely, the smart thing for Irish retailers to do would be to import food brands from the eurozone. This single act alone would immediately reduce the cost of living in Ireland and subsequently the domestic inflation rate.
