Vote for the daughters of these great women

MY mother-in-law is currently fighting illness in Cork University Hospital.

A North Cork woman like my own mother, she is of a generation of women who gave of their all in the rearing of their families.

I came to the conclusion several years ago that the most important job of all is that of the parent in the home raising the next generation.

Unfortunately, financial, economic and political gurus would not agree.

But if they were the guardians who stayed at home I’m sure they would be paid a proper wage, maternity leave would not affect career prospects, and if a child was seriously ill, no questions would be asked as to where the parent should be.

Until more women achieve positions of influence in politics, business, church, etc, nothing will change.

On June 13 consider giving your vote to a woman candidate.

We men don’t have a God-given right to rule the world.

To Nora, and all the other wonderful mothers whose own needs invariably came second to everyone else’s, a heartfelt thank you.
