Litter capital of Ireland – who gives a damn?
The only people ultimately responsible for this label are Cork people themselves. We are a disgusting, lazy, dirty breed who regard litter as someone else’s problem.
The city council provides a tiny smattering of public refuse bins which are always brimming with rubbish. Bottle banks and other rare recycling facilities are never emptied.
And the best way to secure our litter capital status would be to build a giant incinerator which we could feed with more and more of our own and everyone else’s rubbish.
Then it could spit out the toxic dust and ash all over the place, making us also the dirtiest county in Ireland.
