Litter capital of Ireland – who gives a damn?

I WAS delighted recently to read that Cork has finally been labelled the litter capital of Ireland. Because it’s true.

The only people ultimately responsible for this label are Cork people themselves. We are a disgusting, lazy, dirty breed who regard litter as someone else’s problem.

The city council provides a tiny smattering of public refuse bins which are always brimming with rubbish. Bottle banks and other rare recycling facilities are never emptied.
