Rebels are terrorists by any other name

IN THE wake of the latest massacre of more than 190 civilians by the Lord's Resistance Army in Uganda last Saturday, it is noteworthy that both your newspaper, and the media in general, refuse to label these individuals as "terrorists" and insist on referring to them by the far more innocuous term, "rebels".

The LRA is a militant Christian group which aims to establish a state based upon the Ten Commandments. We often hear of militant Islamic groups aiming to establish states based upon the sharia'ah.

Members of these groups are immediately labelled "Islamic fundamentalists", "Islamic terrorists" or "Islamic extremists".
