I HAVE read (Irish Examiner, July 8) about the cave in Doolin with the longest stalactite and the trouble trying to make it accessible to non-caving experts.

I can't understand what the objections are I've been in various caves in Austria and Majorca that are accessible to the public and still keep their environmental integrity.

The Dachstein Caves in Austria are ice caves millions of years old, but the public are allowed to enter in small groups to prevent their breath melting the ice.
