Early education should be through Irish only

YOUR piece on the lack of fluency in Irish and the inefficiency of the education system in relation to teaching the language (Irish Examiner, March 14) had nothing new for those who have worked in support of the language over the years.

Early education should be through Irish only

For many years, the use of Irish was discouraged by the wilful neglect of government. It is only in recent times that more than lip service has been paid to it.

Education through Irish was almost impossible to find and only through the perseverance and hard work of dedicated people has the Gaelscoil movement grown. The children who have been educated through Irish have no difficulty with fluency.
