Article offended adoptive parents

ANN McELHINNEY’S ‘Truth behind the baby trade’ (Irish Examiner, April 15) was inflammatory and offensive to families who have adopted internationally.

Article offended adoptive parents

My husband and I have two children born into our family and two adopted from Asia. Those who adopt internationally are not taking the children of the poor “born in cruel, indifferent and corrupt states.”

Adoptive families do not create the economic and/or political situations that lead birth parents to make adoption plans. When we adopt internationally, we provide a family for children who have none either because they are orphans or because their birth parents relinquished their parental rights.

Every child has a right to a family, and sometimes it is best met through international adoption.
