White House lying about Iraqi resistance

AS the casualties mount in occupied Iraq, with hundreds of Iraqis and dozens of coalition soldiers dead, it strikes me that yet another Bush administration lie has been exposed.

What has happened to the allegation, once promoted widely by the US president and Paul Bremer, that the Iraqi resistance comprised a small and unholy alliance of ‘foreign terrorists’ and ‘Saddam loyalists?’

Whatever else they might be, it is clear that those currently engaged in armed resistance to the US occupation are not ‘former regime loyalists.’ This may seem like a small point, but it highlights yet another attempt by the Bush administration to mislead the public.

In a similar vein, when Bush lands in Ireland in late June, those thousands who will demonstrate against his presence will not be anti-American, or a so-called minority of left-wing troublemakers, but ordinary citizens who are sick and tired of the belligerent warmongering of this US administration.
