Tell SF leaders and let them tell the PSNI
Gerry Adams has strongly repudiated the murder and stated this action was not sanctioned by the IRA.
Paula McCartney claimed republicans had frightened witnesses into silence. Then Adams said “no one has any right... to prevent anyone from helping the McCartney family”. This implies his recognition of intimidation. The family seem to have a clear knowledge of those involved.
Mr Adams is further quoted as saying that “people with reservations about assisting the PSNI should give any information they may have either to the family, a solicitor or any other authoritative or reputable person or body”.
Why would 72 people in a pub be struck dumb? If any of them were to inform Adams or McGuinness, both of whom consider the matter an unambiguous crime, of what they witnessed and also named those involved, is it not the duty of these public representatives to assist the appropriate authority (in this case, the PSNI) to complete the criminal inquiry to allow the crown prosecution service to take the issue to court?
When it suits, Gerry Adams, who by his own admission has never been in the IRA, is able to claim authoritatively what has or has not been sanctioned by that secret organisation.
The Taoiseach is right to demand that criminality be completely divorced from Sinn Féin before the Government can resume the effort to finalise the implementation of the Belfast agreement.
