Residents alone not to blame for litter

AS SOMEONE who lives and works in Mayfield, Cork, I was extremely disappointed to learn that we were top of the league of litter blackspots.

In your editorial on August 29 you state that this should now provide an incentive for the people of the area to clean up their act because they are disgracing the proud people of Cork.

I would like to point out that the fault does not lie alone with the people... the local authorities are responsible for the “air of neglect” which has gained us this dubious distinction.
