A singer would be out of tune in the Áras
Fifty years ago her brand of ultra-conservative Catholicism would probably have seen her not just nominated but elected as well.
Today it is a complete turn-off for a large majority in this country - as was evidenced by her inability to retain her European seat.
We already have far too many public representatives elected because they happen to be related to the previous incumbent of a Dáil seat or because they have achieved prominence in some field which has absolutely no relevance to the role of a national legislator - a singer in the Áras is a step too far.
