City council must keep the pool for the people

I AM ANGRY over the proposed closure of Douglas swimming pool in Cork. A costly ‘feasibility study’ concluded that the pool was not viable and that it should be transferred to a private concern, with the council giving a lease of over 100 years.

City council must keep the pool for the people

Surely the council as a public body should provide essential facilities for the public, even if they are not cost efficient.

Sundays Well swimming club provides a very important voluntary service yet the council will not guarantee it available hours in the new set-up. As a result, the club's future is now in doubt. This is ridiculous. Our politicians, including the lord mayor, should act to ensure that all clubs and primary schools are facilitated.
