Footbridge should identify its location

THE NEW footbridge over the Lee in Cork should be named St Mary’s Bridge.

This would suggest the location of the bridge to visitors. It would be appropriate in that it is situated roughly half way between St Vincent’s Bridge and St Patrick’s Bridge, having on one flank the bridge at the North Gate commemorating Arthur Griffith and, on the other, the bridge at the Opera House in memory of Christy Ring.

And slightly removed from the five, the bridge near the Bus Office commemorates Brian Ború.

It all adds up to a comprehensive whole.
